HIGH CEILING APPLICATIONS WITH LED LUMINAIRES
In high ceiling facililites, high-pressure (HID) bulb luminaires or Flouresan high-ceiling luminaires have been considered the only choice up to recently . As LED light sources become widespread, LED luminaires have become a good alternative for such ceilings. Mini size of LED light sources allows for the design of luminaires at reasonable physical dimensions and with high efficiency. In recent years, increasing the efficiency and options of optical materials has taken the the advantages of LED luminaires a step further.
In high-ceiling facilities, the factors that form the basis of preferring LED applications for conventional products in terms of investment and operational efficiency are summarized below.
In terms of luminaire efficiency (Lumen/Watts), driver losses and especially optical efficiency, the new generation LED luminaires provide considerable energy saving compared to conventional products.
INSTANT COMBUSTION AND LIGHT CONTROL OPTIONS
The fact that HID lamp have to wait for a few minutes before turning on again at the first ignition and in case of power fails is a serious operational problem, especially in manufacturing. There is no such problem in LED systems. This feature makes it possible to use light control devices in LED systems, such as switching on and off with motion detectors, and energy saving is much higher with such methods.
In terms of efficiency (Lumen/Watts), LED lamps have a definite advantage over Conventional products. Especially in the first years of operation, the maximum 5% of the light losses in LED systems are 20% in HID systems, and the LED systems in the first 5 years have more than 10% loss, while the losses exceed 30% in conventional systems. In conventional lighting systems, the consequences of rapid light losses must be carefully assessed and resolved during the designing phase. Otherwise, it is inevitable that there will be a problem in the operating process.
Conventional light sources contain harmful gases to human health; LED light sources do not contain mercury-like harmful content. Metal halide bulbs end their life with explosion due to high pressure at the end of their life. During the explosion, the poisonous mercury vapor that is spread around disturbs the fresh air balance of the environment. In addition, expired conventional light sources must be disposed of in accordance with legal regulations. LED light sources remove all these problems.
